With two strikes, two outs and the Red Sox’ 1986 season on the line against the California Angels in Game 5 of the American League Championship Series, Dave Henderson hit a go-ahead home run to deep left field that brought the Red Sox back to life and led to a dramatic seven-game series win.
Henderson, who retired after the 1994 season, died early Sunday morning at the age of 57. USA Today reported that Henderson had a kidney transplant one month ago but a cardiac arrest was the cause of death.
Henderson’s clutch home run in ‘86 was his first career postseason homer.
