John Henry welcomed Dave Dombrowski as the Red Sox’ new boss of baseball operations today.
But even with the new boss sitting on the dais, much of the talk at Fenway Park was about the old boss - as in departing general manager Ben Cherington.
Dombrowski said he asked Cherington to stay on after before his hiring to run the Red Sox was announced on Tuesday, but Cherington opted to leave the club after nearly four years as its GM.
“Originally I was hopeful Ben would stay,” Dombropwski said. “I talked to Ben yesterday.
“I understand why he came to the decision that he did.
