Chris Sale's strong outing wasted as Red Sox fall to Tigers, 2-1

By Chris Iott

DETROIT -- Chris Sale was nearly untouchable through seven innings. But the eighth inning wasn’t nearly kind to Sale and the Red Sox.

Sale was extremely sharp throughout most of the game Monday afternoon, but the Tigers rallied for the tiebreaking run in the eighth to hand the Red Sox a 2-1 loss.

The Red Sox lost three of four to the Tigers and head home to play the Baltimore Orioles with a 3-3 record.

Sale (0-1) cruised through seven innings. He had allowed only one run – an Ian Kinsler solo home run in the sixth – on three hits and hadn’t walked a batter.
