Nick Cafardo’s “On Baseball” column on Thursday reads “Davis Should Have a Powerful Effect” . I see another slugger with baggage.
Davis, currently with the Orioles, certainly has the credentials to help the Red Sox- a league-leading 42 homers and 107 ribbies. His slash numbers of .255/.328/.503 certainly qualify him as a slugger.
But there are also downsides . He certainly won’t come cheap, with Scott Boras as his agent. He has averaged 183 strikeouts during the last four seasons and currently leads the league with 192. He also failed two tests for using an amphetamine without consent of Major League Baseball.
