Carl Willis might have the toughest job in the majors right now.
The Red Sox pitching coach since last May, when he was hired to replace the recently-fired Juan Nieves, Willis has managed to avoid panicking while observing the Sox’ pitching woes, which may have reached a low over the weekend.
Over the last five games, their starting pitchers allowed 23 runs (19 earned) over 26 innings.
The club has moved to a four-man rotation for two-plus weeks while they utilize extra off-days to avoid sending one of their many struggling starters to the mound out of the fifth spot.
