ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Cardinals have signed Korean pitcher Seung-Hwan Oh, who was an effective closer for the Hanshin Tigers in Japan last season, to a one-year contract with a club option for a second year.
The 33-year-old Oh had 41 saves last year and has 357 career saves. He's expected to be a setup man for closer Trevor Rosenthal, who set a franchise record with 48 saves last season.
Earlier this winter, the Cardinals unsuccessfully bid on Korean first baseman Byung-Ho Park, who landed with the Twins. Last year, they bid on shortstop Jung Ho Kang, who plays for the Pirates.
