My main, season-long gripe has been errors. We need more from our infield, period. As a team, the Red Sox have wasted a lot of surprisingly sharp pitching and that’s a genuine shame.
I’m stipulating here that the defense is not entirely to blame for 2024’s struggles. The offense hasn’t kept up its end of the bargain, either. But since the irony of publishing this the morning after a game in which we notched 24 hits, 14 runs, and ran away with the whole thing by the fourth inning isn’t lost on me—and to allow ourselves to fully savor what happened last night—let’s talk about something else.
