FORT MYERS — It’s getting a little boring, this business of people dropping bread crumbs that’ll hopefully guide David Ortiz out of retirement and back to the big leagues.
Listen up, people: The big fella is done. There’s a better chance 97-year-old Hall of Famer Bobby Doerr will be climbing into the home whites this season. (If there’s one nonagenarian who can swing a bat, it’s Bobby. And extra props to him for signing Danny Ainge to his first baseball contract and teaching Jim Lonborg how to bunt.)
Anyway, let’s stop with the pipe dreams about a David Ortiz come back.
