Yesterday was Brock Holt’s 27th birthday. In this Red Sox season of many downs and fewer ups, he has remained consistent performer. In his last 7 games, for example, he is 10 for 15 with three doubles and four walks.
Most baseball teams have utility infielders and utility outfielders. Holt is a combination. During the last two seasons, he has started games at every position except catcher.
A native of Texas, Holt came to the Sox with little fanfare. He arrived from the Pirates in December 2012 with Joel Hanrahan for Jerry Sands, Stolmy Pimentel, Mark Melancon and Ivan DeJesus Jr.
