Brock Holt is Red Sox' All-Star

Super utility player Brock Holt became the sole Red Sox representative to this month's All-Star Game when American League manager Ned Yost selected him to the roster today.

Shortstop Xander Bogaerts wasn't chosen, but still could join Holt in Cincinnati for the July 14 game. He is one of the five nominees for the final spot on the roster, with fan voting for that spot to commence immediately through next week.

No Red Sox pitchers were selected.

Each team has to have at least one representative on the All-Star team. And considering nobody on the Red Sox has played well enough — or plays for the Royals, who had four starters voted in — to be voted in as a starter, there has been considerable speculation about who would get the nod.
