Brock Holt a big hit with Red Sox’ first cycle since 1996

The team’s most versatile performer hit for the cycle in yesterday’s 9-4 victory against the Atlanta Braves in interleague play at Fenway Park.

“This is my first one ever,” Holt said. “It was a pretty special day and something I’ll remember for a while.”

Holt batted leadoff and finished 4-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. He started at second base in place of Dustin Pedroia and accomplished something not pulled off by a member of the Red Sox in 19 years.

John Valentin was the last Red Sox player to hit for the cycle, against the Chicago White Sox on June 6, 1996, at Fenway.
