Boston Red Sox knuckleballer Steven Wright was suspended 80 games on Wednesday after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance.
Major League Baseball said Wright tested positive for growth hormone releasing peptide 2 (GHRP-2).
Wright released a statement Wednesday acknowledging he had been notified of the test result. "Although I do not dispute the validity of the test, I was shocked as I have never intentionally ingested anything for performance-enhancing purposes," he said.
