Boston Red Sox left-hander Chris Sale injured his throwing hand when he was struck by a comebacker during the first inning of Sunday's game against the New York Yankees.
Sale was hit by a line drive from Yankees outfielder Aaron Hicks before walking off the field holding up his injured hand.
The 33-year-old Sale was making only his second start of 2022 after missing the first three months of the season because of a fracture in his right rib cage. He has made only 11 starts for the Red Sox since 2019.
