BOSTON -- In a hotly anticipated Angels-Red Sox series featuring arguably the two best all-around players in the game in Mookie Betts and Mike Trout, it was Betts who created the first highlight on Tuesday night, when he smashed a homer on the first pitch of the bottom of the first inning.
The blast, which came off Angels left-hander John Lamb, sent right fielder Michael Hermosillo sprawling into Boston's bullpen in right-center in an unsuccessful quest to make the catch.
For Betts, it was his 20th of the season.
