FORT MYERS — Andrew Benintendi chopped off his hair and started eating.
That was during the offseason, when the 23-year-old decided to make some changes as he prepared for his second spring training in big league camp with the Red Sox.
A short-haired, much-thicker version of the kid with the Ken Griffey Jr. swing sat down outside JetBlue Park for a chat Monday looking relaxed in a cap, shorts, t-shirt and sandals and sheepishly announced that he was up to 190 pounds.
Last year, he was listed at 170.
“I just ate a lot,” he said.
