The Red Sox have addressed their lack of infield depth by putting an infielder on the disabled list.
Third baseman Pablo Sandoval, who's been inconsistent on the field and at the plate, was put on the disabled list with a left inner-ear infection. There has been no discussion of Sandoval dealing with such a problem during these past two weeks when he's been relegated to primarily bench status. Last night, John Farrell chose to pinch hit for Sandoval in a key spot, even though it meant putting a catcher at third base the next inning.
To replace him, the Red Sox have recalled utility man Deven Marrero, who was optioned back to Triple-A on Wednesday and could not be recalled this quickly without someone going on the disabled list.
