A year after cancer diagnosis, John Farrell's perspective has changed

BOSTON -- For several minutes Wednesday afternoon, Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell sat behind a desk in a Fenway Park conference room and faced questions from reporters about why he used Steven Wright as a pinch runner in a one-run game Sunday in Los Angeles, a move that led to the knuckleballer jamming his right shoulder on a dive back into second base.

But it sure as heck beat what Farrell was doing one year earlier.
