Nick Sogard, who grew up a Red Sox fan, did something that many Red Sox fans dream of doing in his MLB debut on Friday.
The Red Sox’ newest position player contributed to a win, hitting a single in his second at-bat to score two runs. Sogard’s hit gave the Red Sox a 6-3 lead in the fourth inning as they eventually went on to win, 11-6.
For Sogard, Friday marked the culmination of a longer-than-usual path to the majors. Sogard, who turns 27 in September, has been stuck in the minors since the Rays selected him in the 12th round of the 2019 MLB Draft.
