The Boston Red Sox plan to be buyers at the deadline and continue to have strong interest in Philadelphia Phillies reliever Pat Neshek, according to Jen McCaffrey of MassLive.com.
Phillies reliever Pat Neshek is among the best arms on the trade market his summer and the Red Sox have shown strong interest.
Boston has been tied to Neshek for the last few months, and ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reported on Sunday that the Red Sox, along with the Washington Nationals, Los Angeles Dodgers, Tampa Bay Rays and Chicago Cubs, have scouted Neshek recently.
Boston has been targeting third basemen in recent weeks after parting ways with Pablo Sandoval, but Neshek appears to be their top priority right now. However, the Red Sox don't want to part with any of their top prospects in any deadline deal.
Neshek as a 1.12 ERA with one save and 45 strikeouts in 40.1 innings in 43 appearances this season while holding opponents to a .203 batting average.
