The hours are ticking down in advance of Friday's 2015 MLB Trade Deadline, and there's plenty of intrigue to go around surrounding all 30 MLB teams -- ESPECIALLY the Boston Red Sox. With that in mind, here's our Red Sox Trade Rumors: 3 Things To Know At The Trade Deadline.
Hamels Won't Waive No-Trade Clause For Red Sox?
The Texas Rangers have emerged as a slight favorite for the ace lefty with the Houston Astros and Los Angeles Dodgers following closely behind. Hamels' no-hitter on Saturday upped his 2015 record to 6-7 and dropped his ERA to 3.64 with 137 strikeouts in 128.2 innings -- just under 1.1 per inning.
Red Sox Inquire About Sonny Gray, Carlos Carrasco
Per Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, "the Red Sox have been in talks for controllable pitchers and have had conversations with the Indians (Carlos Carrasco), A’s (Sonny Gray), and Mets."
The most intriguing name on that list is 2015 AL Cy Young candidate Sonny Gray. A's GM Billy Beane has said that Oakland is not considering trades for players under multiple years of team control, but a blow-away offer by the Red Sox may at least cause him to bend his thinking a little bit.
The 25-year-old righty has been one of the lone bright spot for the AL West cellar-dwelling A's. He's 11-4 and pitching to a sterling 2.16 ERA and 0.97 WHIP with 124 strikeouts in 145.2 innings. He has one year of full team control left and three arbitration years stacked up through 2019.
What's The Deal With Koji Uehara?
The Red Sox have been fielding offers for weeks on the 40-year-old closer for weeks now, with GM Ben Cherington intimating that he'd rather hold on to Uehara and his $9 million salary for 2016.
However, Uehara would command a solid to lower-blue chip prospect in this sellers' market, so don't rule out a 11th-hour deal if Cherington is blown away by an offer from a reliever-needy contender.
