Boston is looking to add another power bat to their lineup this offseason, making it their top priority this winter. They finished 2017 ranked 26th in the majors in slugging percentage (.407), 14th in batting average (.258), and 27th in home runs (168).
Santana would immediately provide the Red Sox with a boost in all areas. He hit .259 with 23 home runs and 79 RBI last season. Only one Red Sox player hit more home runs in 2017 (Mookie Betts, 24).

Signing Santana to first base would also allow the team to move Hanley Ramirez to full-time DH.
Boston is also looking into signing Kansas City Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer.
