When the Boston Red Sox traded Jon Lester to Oakland for Yoenis Cespedes, they thought they were getting a player that would be a key component of their next championship team.
Turns out, they might even have him for a full season.
Bill Madden of the New York Daily News writes that the Red Sox are looking to trade the powerful outfielder this winter after he signed with Roc Nation Sports.
Boston was working on a deal with Cespedes' former agent, Adam Katz, about an extension, but now Roc Nation is seeking a much more lucrative and long-term extension, much like they did with Robinson Cano last offseason.
That would have been fine with the Red Sox if they actually liked him.
Cespedes has been open about the face that he doesn't like Boston, and he doesn't listen or pay attention to any of the coaches. Madden writes that a Red Sox insider claims, "He marches to his own drum and the coaches all hate him".
The Red Sox are hoping to get something in return by trading the talented slugger this winter, rather than risk losing him for nothing to free agency in 2015.
