In tonight's edition of Red Sox rumors, the Boston Red Sox have been rumored to be considering trading Mike Carp to open some space on their roster -- a move which may not be as easy as it looks.
According to Matt Collins of SBNation.com, Mike Carp's trade stock may not be high enough right now to facilitate the right deal to bring a bat like Daniel Nava back from Triple-A:
"In an ideal world, the Red Sox would be able to trade Mike Carp for what they view as fair value, and Daniel Nava would still be on the roster. It's never that simple, though, and a lot of things are preventing that from happening right now. Who knows how other teams view Carp compared to Boston's front office. If they're even relatively close, is anyone really looking for a trade right now? If someone is looking to shake up the roster this early, is it one of the few teams who could use someone like Carp? In all likelihood, the answer to all of those questions are no," wrote Collins.
If the Boston Red Sox are looking to bring Daniel Nava back full-time, this move makes sense. However, the trick is finding another team to whom adding Carp would make sense as well.
Carp ended the 2013 MLB season with a .296/.362/.523 line in 243 plate appearances.
