The Boston Red Sox will have to wait until at least Tuesday to find out whether or not Jon Lester will return to New England in free agency.
According to Gordon Edes of ESPN Boston, Lester decided to delay his free agency decision with speculation still flying late on Monday night:
Told again just now that Lester decision will not be made tonight.

Per several MLB sources, the San Francisco Giants and Chicago Cubs have emerged as favorites to land the dominant left-hander. However, with Lester still drawing out his decision-making process, that could very well open the door for the Boston Red Sox to make an 11th hour push to re-sign Lester.
In 219.2 combined innings between the Red Sox and Oakland Athletics last season, Lester went 16-11 with a 2.46 ERA and 220/48 K/BB ratio. The 30-year-old is likely to command a five-to-six year contract in the $130-150 million range.
