In Red Sox news, the Boston Red Sox have signed some needed corner infield depth, looking to a 33-year old journeyman infielder to help fill out their bench.
Per Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors, free agent infielder Ryan Roberts has signed a Major League contract with the Red Sox, with contract details obtained from Alex Speier of WEEI.com --

Roberts was officially activated for tonight's game, replacing Steven Wright on the 40-man roster, with Wright being placed on the 60-day disabled list. As Adams writes, "Brock Holt was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket to clear a spot on the 25-man roster."
One final note on today's signing by the Boston Red Sox as provided in Adams' final update on the story: "Roberts would earn at a rate of $200K if he ends up back in the minors, tweets Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe."
In the end, this could be a low-risk, high-reward signing of a guy who can play either second or third base, and hits very well against left-handed pitching.
