The Boston Red Sox made a business decision when it came to renting starting pitcher Jon Lester to the Oakland Athletics for the stretch run in 2014. They are now looking to do their best to make his stay away from New England a short one
Per legendary baseball writer Peter Gammons, the Red Sox have a meeting scheduled with Lester this coming week. However, a familiar foe appears to be lurking in the shadows:
am told that while Cubs, Red Sox will meet with Jon Lester this week,Yanks are to be watched, and process could last into December

Several sources have indicated that Lester is inclined to get a deal done sooner rather than later, seemingly positioning the Red Sox and Cubs at the top of Lester's list.
However, if next week's meetings don't end with Lester signing, the New York Yankees appear to be positioning themselves as a dark horse.
While the Yankees are reportedly more interested in keeping their bullpen intact than going crazy looking for another top-tier pitcher, don't be surprised if the Red Sox are forced to duke it out once again with their rivals to bring Lester home.
