The market on free agent righty James Shields is a confusing one right now, with several teams, including the Boston Red Sox, sending mixed signals about their interest level in the former Kansas City Royals ace.
According to ESPN's Jim Bowden, the Red Sox have not engaged Shields or his representation in serious discussions as of this time:

Many thought that James Shields would find a home quickly after the Chicago Cubs signed Jon Lester to a multi-year deal, but despite multiple teams showing interest, he's not found a match yet.
