The Boston Red Sox appears to be one of several teams angling to pull off a trade for Oakland Athletics starter Jeff Samardzija.
As Boston.com's Jeff Pini reports, "the Sox are one of “numerous” teams trying to work out a deal for Samardzija, according to the Globe’s Nick Cafardo. The right-hander was dealt to the A’s in July after posting a 2.83 ERA in 17 starts with the Cubs, earning him a spot on the NL All-Star team."
MassLive.com's Jason Mastrodonato indicates that the A's could be willing to part with Samardzija for some combination of Brock Holt, Jackie Bradley Jr., and Anthony Ranaudo.
With Clay Buchholz the current #1 starter on the Boston Red Sox pitching staff for 2015, Samardzija would provide a major boost for Boston and would likely slot ahead of Buchholz in the rotation.
Samardzija has made 99 starts in his MLB career, posting a 3.86 ERA and 1.232 WHIP in those outings.
