The Boston Red Sox have added an intriguing piece to their pitching staff, adding former All-Star righty Alexi Ogando on a one-year, $1.5 million deal, per Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports:
Sources: #RedSox in agreement with free-agent reliever Alexi Ogando on a one-year, major-league contract, pending a physical.

Here's NBC Hardball Talk's Aaron Gleeman of the last half-decade of the former Texas Rangers standout's career:
Ogando posted a 3.12 ERA in 381 innings from 2010-2013, switching back and forth between the bullpen and rotation for the Rangers while often failing to stay healthy. Last season he struggled for the first time in his career with a 6.84 ERA and was limited to 25 innings by a arm problems, so the Rangers non-tendered him rather than pay around $2.5 million via arbitration.
Ogando will likely slot in as a reliever and a reliever only for the Red Sox, and he could even be a late-inning option if he remains healthy. In 138 career innings out of the bullpen, Ogando has posted a 3.25 ERA with 132 strikeouts, holding opposing hitters to a .229 batting average.
