With just a few days for the MLB Trade Deadline, the Boston Red Sox remain somewhat active in their efforts to pull off a trade. With David Price's recent injury, Boston is expected to pursue pitching help along with adding another bat to their lineup. Here are three possible trades the Red Sox could make before the trade deadline.
1) Trade prospects for Yu Darvish
If the Red Sox are really scared about Price's injury, Darvish is a great option for them. The Rangers are actively shopping him, and with his contract set to expire after the season, Boston may not have to part with the top prospects they want to keep. There is a pretty strong rental market for Darvish, but he's their best chance to significantly improve their chances in the postseason.
2) Acquire power bat from Mets
Boston has been connected to several New York Mets players over the last few weeks, and have recently been linked to both Curtis Granderson and Jay Bruce as they try to add another power bat to their lineup. Both players are set to be free agents after the season, meaning like Darvish, the Red Sox likely won't have to give up their top prospects to get either player. Granderson is batting .225 with 13 home runs and 37 RBIs this season, while Bruce is hitting .262 with 26 home runs and 70 RBIs.
3) Low-key deal for Yonder Alonso
Alonso is in the middle of a breakout season and Oakland is looking to flip him when his stock is the highest. As of now, he's a secondary option if Boston isn't able to get Granderson or Bruce, but he is another power bat who is available. There hasn't been a whole lot of interest from other teams since many don't need a power bat - which could make him a cheap addition for Boston.
