The Boston Red Sox went from World Series champs to last place in the AL East for the second time in three years, but several offseason moves have this team expecting to make the postseason and make a run to another World Series. How will they fare in 2015? Here are some bold predictions:
1) David Ortiz will hit over 40 home runs
Boston boosted the heart of their order by adding slugger Pablo Sandoval, and with him and Hanley Ramirez hitting behind Ortiz, Big Papi will see his fair share of pitches to hit. He blasted 31 homers last year, and there's no reason to think that number will do anything but increase.
2) Boston will trade for Phillies P Cole Hamels
The Red Sox don't have a proven ace on their roster, and that will hurt them this season, causing them to trade for one. Hamels has expressed his desire to play for a winner, and with Philadelphia looking like one of the worst teams in the league, he should be on the move this season. Look for Boston to give up a number of prospects to bring in Hamels.
3) The Red Sox will claim a Wild Card spot
The AL East will be extremely tough yet again as four of the five teams are legitimate playoff contenders, but that competition will raise Boston's level of play against the teams they play outside of the division due to an added sense of urgency. They'll find a way to squeak into the Wild Card - where they'll face the Yankees.
