2007 marked the first time Boston College and Georgia Tech ever met in a conference game. The Eagles, in their third season as members of the ACC after defecting from the Big East, had enjoyed a measure of immediate success in their newly-formed Atlantic Division, but the back-to-back consolation prize winners to Florida State and Wake Forest found themselves in a cross-division matchup against a bigger fish by the time the game against the Yellow Jackets rolled around.
The Yellow Jackets were a potential white whale as the defending Coastal Division champions and became an unexpectedly-major opponent as one of BC's two rotating league games.
