CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Serena Sommerfield's overtime goal 1:32 into the extra session claimed a 3-2 win for the No. 2 Boston College women's hockey team over Vermont on Friday night at Kelley Rink.
BC twice took one-goal leads, but both times Vermont rallied to tie the game – including Ali O'Leary's early third-period power-play goal that eventually forced overtime.
Boston College (21-2-3, 14-1-3 HEA) out-shot Vermont (6-15-3, 3-10-3 HEA), 39-19, in the game, including a 14-2 edge in the first period. The victory clinched home ice for the Eagles in the Hockey East Quarterfinals, which are set to begin the last weekend in February.
