CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Joel Maatta converted in the fifth round of a shootout to give Vermont an extra Hockey East point following a 1-1 tie with No. 18 Boston College on Friday night at Kelley Rink to open a weekend series.
The Eagles pushed their record to 9-6-5 (5-3-4 HEA) despite a 35-22 shot advantage over the Catamounts (7-13-3, 2-10-1 HEA).
Cutter Gauthier scored Boston College's lone goal, his team-high 12th of the season, and also scored to begin the shootout.
BC earned a major power play at the 5:45 mark of the first period on a high cross check against Robbie Stucker that also resulted in a game misconduct.
