The bench press at the NFL Combine is a little more primitive than the made-for-television drills seen on the NFL Network's airwaves each year. It needs space, so a weight bench is placed in the middle of a padded floor with only an official and a coach standing around it to watch. The players of a position group fan out around the platform, but the weight room feel gives off a more carnal vibe than the glamorous drills on the Lucas Oil Stadium gridiron.
Each group is tasked with performing each drill, but the bench press draws more attention whenever the horsepower positions step up to its 225-pound proving ground.
