Earlier today, the NWHL announced the winners of the league’s awards for the 2017-18 season. Former Boston College defender, Lexi Bender, was the lone former Eagle to pick up an award, earning the Boston Pride’s Foundation Award. The NWHL Foundation Award is given yearly to 4 players (one from each team) and honors the player on each team that “most actively applying the core values of hockey to her community as well as growing and improving hockey culture.”
Bender, who has always been known for being an offensive defender, had a quieter year on offense this season. However, one has to take into account that she is used to playing with the top offensive players in the game, most of whom took this season off to play in the Olympics.
