The Boston College community has lost another legend, as former men’s hockey coach Len Ceglarski passed away today at the age of 91. The athletic department announced Ceglarski’s passing in a press release last hour.
In addition to steering BC to 419 wins and 8 Frozen Four appearances, Ceglarski also goes down as a legendary player for BC, playing on the 1949 National Championship team.
Ceglarski continued a chain of legendary BC hockey coaches who have kept the program among the elite throughout most of its history, taking over from Snooks Kelley in 1972.
On tonight’s Boston Bruins broadcast, Jack Edwards and Andy Brickley announced the sad news about Ceglarski’s death, and pointed out that Celgarski and BC’s commitment to giving a chance to American players at a time when Canadians ruled the roost was transformative for American hockey, and helped pave the way for the many Americans who have found success in college hockey and the NHL in recent decades.
