Knight Leads No. 5 Eagles Into First Place Tie in Shutout of No. 7 UMass

AMHERST, Mass. – Rookie Spencer Knight posted a 30-save shutout and No. 5 Boston College moved into a first place tie atop the Hockey East standings with a 3-0 blanking of No. 7 UMass on Friday night at the Mullins Center.

The Eagles clinched the regular season series against Massachusetts 2-1-0, earning the tiebreaker for seeding in the Hockey East playoffs.

BC improved to 16-7-0 overall and 10-5-0 in the league heading into the Beanpot, while the Minutemen fell to 16-9-2 (9-6-2 HEA).

Following a scoreless first period, BC scored three goals in the early (Alex Newhook), middle (Logan Hutsko), and latter (Graham McPhee) stages of the second to storm into the lead.
