NEWTON, Mass. -- The No. 1 Northwestern Wildcats (4-0) defeated the No. 14 Boston College Eagles (1-3) on Friday night, closing out the ACC/Big 10 Challenge with a 6-0 win over the Eagles.
The Wildcats opened scoring midway through the first quarter, and would extend their lead to 5-0 as the first half ended. Freshman Carrie Van Wiechen, making her fourth consecutive start, had five saves in the first half before Emily Gillespie took over in net. The Eagles defense tightened up in the second half, allowing only one more goal the rest of the way, but the Wildcats prevailed.
