Boston College alumnus Joe Maloy competed in the men’s triathlon at the Rio Olympics on Thursday, finishing 23rd overall with a time of 1:48:30. Maloy, who finished four seconds behind the next closest competitor, crossed the finish line as the highest-placed American competitor.
Great Britain took home first and second place in the event, with Alistair Brownlee and Jonny Brownlee earning gold and silver, respectively. South Africa’s Henri Shoeman finished third to earn the bronze medal.
The Brownlees finished within six seconds of each other at 1:45:01 and 1:45:07, with Maloy finishing just about three minutes behind them.
