Crowther Honored with Spirit of Tewaaraton Award

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Tewaaraton Foundation announced Friday evening that Boston College men's lacrosse alumnus Welles Crowther has been named the 2018 Spirit of Tewaaraton recipient.

The Spirit of Tewaarton award is presented to an individual involved in the sport of lacrosse who nobly reflects the finest virtues exemplified in the game, and who, over the course of his or her life, has made a significant contribution to society and to the lives of others.

Crowther is best known as "The Man with the Red Bandana." During the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center, Crowther is credited with saving at least a dozen lives as the South Tower fell, losing his own – he was remembered by those he saved as he used his signature red bandana to keep the smoke out of his nose and mouth.
