BOSTON – Junior cornerback Hamp Cheevers was named a winner of the 80th annual George "Bulger" Lowe Award, "New England's Heisman Trophy" by the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston College Awards committee chairman Tim Whelan on Tuesday. The award, one of America's oldest college football accolades, has been claimed by a Boston College player in each of the last four seasons.
The Bulger Lowe Award recognizes New England's best offensive and defensive players in the NCAA Bowl Subdivision/Football Championship Subdivision. Through week 11, Cheevers' seven interceptions lead the nation; he also has 135 return yards and one touchdown.
