CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – 10th-ranked Boston College dropped a 6-2 final to No. 7 Providence in the Eagles' Hockey East opener on Friday night at Kelley Rink.
BC fell below .500 at 2-3-0 (0-1-0 HEA), while the Friars improved to 4-1-0 (2-0-0 HEA).
Graham McPhee and Logan Hutsko tallied goals for the Eagles in a five-goal second period. The Friars carried a 4-2 lead into the third and sealed the win with a pair of insurance goals.
Late in a tightly contested first period, Jason O'Neill converted a rebound on the doorstep to give PC a 1-0 advantage.
