This morning, Larry Bird went on the Dan Patrick Show to discuss the Pacers’ new Hoosiers-inspired jerseys. At the end of the interview, Patrick asked if he could beat fellow-Space Jam-star, Michael Jordan, in a game of one-on-one, if it was played today.
Bird, in a moment of humility, responded:
“Boy that’d be a good game. God I hate to admit this, but he’d kill me.”
While Bird’s answer was appropriate, and likely correct, it felt dissatisfying to hear from the typically-competitive Bird. At 58-years-old, Bird has a far more significant workload being the Pacers President/GM of Pacers, than the 52-year-old, Jordan – whose responsibilities as Hornets’ owner are minimal.
