Today, February 17th, is the eighth anniversary of the trade which sent former Boston Celtics guard Sam Cassell to the Sacramento Kings.
Cassell, who was traded for a conditional second-round draft pick halfway through the 2008-09 season after winning a championship with Boston, never actually played for the Kings, having served as something of a coach for Doc Rivers before the trade while not playing any games despite being listed as an active player. It was, oddly enough, the second time in his career he was traded on this day, having been shipped to the (then) New Jersey Nets by the Dallas Mavericks.
