In the wake of Bill Walton’s death Monday at 71, the Celtics issued the following statement. Walton played for the Celtics for two seasons in the 1980s and was a key part of their 1985-86 championship team, considered by some the greatest team in NBA history.
“Bill Walton was one of the most consequential players of his era. A Hall of Famer, Most Valuable Player, and two-time NBA Champion, Walton could do it all, possessing great timing, complete vision of the floor, excellent fundamentals, and was of one of the greatest passing big men in league history.
