MIAMI — When it comes to Miami Heat numerology, recently signed free-agent forward Kelly Olynyk will follow in the lineage of Dan Majerle, Yakhouba Diawara, Rashard Lewis and Luol Deng and wear No. 9, which now makes it 23 years since a Heat player has worn No. 41, the number Olynyk wore with the Boston Celtics.
The last Heat player to wear No. 41 remains Glen Rice, who was dealt by Pat Riley for Alonzo Mourning shortly after Riley took over as Heat president and coach in 1995. Rice has had an increased presence around the team in recent years as a scout, community ambassador and currently is working with Tony Fiorentino at the Heat’s youth camps.
