Jordan Mickey made history today, becoming the second-highest paid rookie drafted in the second-round, prior to playing a NBA game.
His contract’s structured the same as a first rounder’s: four-year deal guaranteeing money for the first two seasons, with team options attached to each of the latter two. If Ainge decides to pick up both options, Mickey will earn a total of $5 million.
After reports suggested the discussions hit a snag when the two sides couldn’t agree on the length of the proposed deal – as Mickey’s agent wanted a shorter tenure for his client (in order to capitalize on free agency faster) – it appeared Ainge won the negotiations, as Mickey’s now potentially locked-up for four years.
