WALTHAM — Jayson Tatum’s run to the NBA began with a limp.
The Celtics’ first-round pick, No. 3 overall, at Thursday’s draft was introduced yesterday at the team’s training facility alongside team owners Steve Pagliuca and Wyc Grousbeck, president of basketball operations Danny Ainge and coach Brad Stevens.
Tatum addressed the struggle he faced at the start of his only season at Duke for coach Mike Krzyzewski and what it took to overcome the setback after Tatum sprained his foot during a preseason workout.
“It was just a freak incident, there was no contact I just planted,” said the 19-year-old.
