Jayson Tatum flies planes with STEM students at Logan Airport

Celtics forward Jayson Tatum can throw down high-flying dunks, but can he fly a model airplane?

Tatum joined 24 students from Winthrop Middle School’s STEM Club at the JetBlue hangar at Logan Airport on Thursday as the students celebrated completing the JetBlue Rookie Flight Crew program. The four-week program teaches students the science of aeronautics as they learn how to build a fully functioning model airplane.

Tatum hopped on a tour of a JetBlue aircraft from airline crew members and watched as some of the students put their aeronautics knowledge to use.

“This is definitely a unique program that involves an extended process of thinking and working towards a specific goal of being able to fly their planes,” the second-year Celtics player said in a press release.
